The Q2 2017 meeting of GCF’s Conformance Agreement Group (CAG) took place in the spectacular surroundings of Wembley Stadium in London on 25-26 April.
Kindly hosted by EE, the UK operator which aims to make Wembley the “most connected stadium in the world”, delegates took a few minutes out of a very full agenda, to celebrate the milestone of the group’s 50th meeting.
Valerie Townsend, previously CAG Chair and CAG participant for more than a decade, shared some of her recollections about the origins of the group and its contribution to the evolution of GCF certification. CAG is the main contributor to GCF’s Device Certification Criteria database (DCC) which has grown to include thousands of industry-validated certification criteria covering GSM, 3G and LTE and a diverse range of functionalities including NFC, IMS, RCS and NB-IoT.
Of the 88 delegates who attended CAG#1 in January 2005, nine are still actively contributing to the Group and six were present in Wembley for CAG#50.
CAG#1 approved 51 test case validations, considered 37 other documents and progressed 17 work items relating to GSM and 3G. CAG#50 reviewed 538 test case validations and considered 94 other documents relating to 276 distinct Work Items, most relating to LTE. Continuous refinement of procedures and process automation has played a big part in ensuring CAG keeps conformance testing aligned with the real needs of the industry.
Looking to the future, Valerie was confident that CAG and GCF will continue to serve the industry as long as members continue to sit together to discuss and debate new requirements that meet the needs of the operators, match manufacturers’ capabilities and make most appropriate use of the skills of test equipment manufacturers and test labs.
