GCF has established a framework for the certification of "standards-based" client applications intended for download onto smartphones.
RCS (Rich Communication Suite) developed by GSMA is the first client application to be brought within GCF Certification.
Subject to demand from industry, GCF has the option to extend Certification to other standards-based client applications in the future.
GCF has defined two routes to client certification:
For clients embedded in a smartphone during manufacture
- The client is treated as a feature of the device and assessed against the relevant certification criteria during the established device certification process.
For clients available for download from an app store
- The client must be tested in accordance with GCF's Client Application Certification Procedures and Criteria – GCF-CP.
- This reference document defines how testing needs to be undertaken on a variety of smartphones, against different OS versions and against different servers.
To certify a client, the application developer must be a Client Vendor Member of GCF.
